Dr Kenneth FlemingDr Kenneth Fleming

Ken has been a clinical academic and pathologist (liver histopathology) for over 40 years.  Graduating from Glasgow University in 1968, he received his DPhil from Oxford University in 1980 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists in 1988. His research interests have been in several liver diseases, especially the pathogenesis of Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, and in the molecular analysis of tissue, resulting in over 200 publications and a H-index of 49.

Ken has had several major leadership positions in academic medicine, including being the inaugural Head of the Medical Sciences Division (Dean of Medicine) at the University of Oxford from 2000 till 2008.

Since 2008, the problems of lack of pathology in many countries have been his focus.  In 2011 he was appointed the first Director for International Activities at the Royal College of Pathologists and in 2015, was appointed Adviser for Pathology to the Centre for Global Heath at the National Cancer Institute in Washington.  As part of this activity, he has become aware of the need to demonstrate value in pathology to sceptical politicians and funders.

Dr Jenny Dean

Jenny has ten years’ experience as a doctor in the NHS specialising in Anaesthesia, and more than a decade in various management, consulting and industry roles in healthcare. Over the past five years’ Jenny has held senior Clinical and General Manager roles in a healthcare technology company providing solutions ranging from clinical and patient portals to precision medicine with next generation molecular diagnostics.

Jenny is passionate about the opportunities that technology provides for enabling value-based transformation of health and care. Critical to the success of transformation is the right clinical leadership and stakeholder engagement. Her experience includes three years as the founding Executive Director of the University of Cambridge Judge Business School’s Centre for Health Leadership and Enterprise.  There she co-developed and ran the Cambridge Chief Residents Management and Leadership Development programme for doctors in the region.

She has a medical degree from the University of Leicester, an MSc in remote healthcare that included 18 months’ as the medical officer on an Antarctic base, and an MBA from Cambridge Judge Business School.

David SmithDavid Smith

David Smith has worked in the National Health Service in England for over 40 years and has a track record of delivering major change in services and financial turnaround. His experience spans a number of Chief Executive and Director roles in health systems which have had financial and operational challenges. He has also, almost uniquely amongst NHS Chief Executives, had a period as a Director of Adult Social Care for a council in London. David is a qualified accountant.

David retired from full-time employment in December 2017. Prior to retiring, he was Chief Executive of the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, an organisation which spends almost £900m per year and also the lead for the Sustainability and Transformation Partnership for the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West area, covering a population of 1.8m people with a budget of £2.5bn.  

Outside work, David enjoys spending time with his family, travel, playing golf and supporting Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club.

Prakash JayakumarPrakash Jayakumar

Prakash is an orthopaedic specialist trained in the UK having completed fellowships in Oxford and the US, India, Switzerland and Austria. He has a PhD (DPhil) in Musculoskeletal Sciences from Balliol College, University of Oxford for work related to patient focused outcomes and patient-centered care in orthopaedic trauma. The drive to make a strong contribution in this field has led to scholarships from the Harvard School of Public Health in Health Outcome Measurement and applying this education to patient outcome projects at the Hand & Upper Extremity Service, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.

Prakash has expanded his interest toward value-based health care and technological innovations in health care by collaborating with University of Oxford Value Based Health Care Research Program and becoming alumnus of the Porter Intensive Seminar, Harvard Business School, and Innovating Health for Tomorrow Program at INSEAD Business School. He is also a consulting clinician for value creation and technological innovations teams in industry. Prakash is currently undertaking an MRes in Health Care & Design at Imperial College London and Royal College of Art developed by Professor Lord Ara Darzi bringing his knowledge, skills and experiences to designing Hospitals of the Future.

He is also selected for the Harkness Fellowship in Health Policy and Practice 2018 / 2019 investigating the impact of US musculoskeletal integrated practice units on outcomes and cost

Dr Virginia Minogue

Dr Virginia Minogue is an independent consultant, coach and mentor. She is an experienced Executive and Senior Manager, in the public and third sector, working at national, regional and local level, leading on commissioning, research policy, strategy and governance. Executive experience at Director level including budget management and briefing/advising government ministers and their officials.

History of involving service users, patients and carers in all aspects of commissioning and research. Wide university teaching experience, including trainee doctors and nurses, and online tuition. Experienced Board chair, working with CEOs/Directors and leading management boards. Strong communication and presentation skills being widely published, presenting papers to international, national and local conferences; introduced and edited an academic journal for seven years. A dedicated and motivated leader with a passion for innovation, partnership working, service user involvement and engagement, rigorous research governance, maximising financial resources and measurable outcomes.

Virginia has a first degree in Behavioural Sciences, a Diploma in Social Work, a Masters in Policy Studies and a PhD in Politics and Public Administration.
